April 2012: Brian Carelock
Meet Brian Carelock! Brian started volunteering at the Ronald House in July of 2011. He comes on Saturday evenings to run the office while our weekend managers get away for a bit. Brian finds many “Mr. Fix-It” things to do while he is on duty like changing light bulbs, cleaning A/C filters, taking care of getting the meal put out for our families and continuing with the kitchen duties after the meal is over. He likes to stay busy so we try to make sure he has plenty to do when it is his turn to come!
Brian is married with no children but they have a lovely 5 month old dog named Grace. He has been in the military for 7 years and is currently a US Navy Recruiter out of Spartanburg and plans to continue his career until retirement time. Brian grew up without a male role model so he is happy to guide successful careers for young men and women today as they go into the Navy. It is also a reason that Brian likes to help children. He does this by volunteering with the Boys and Girls Club of Spartanburg at Fairforest Elementary School by tutoring and mentoring students.
Martin Luther King, Jr. said: “The ultimate measure of a man is not where he stands in moments of comfort and convenience, but where he stands at time of challenge and controversy”. This is one of Brian’s favorite sayings. He feels like he was put on this earth to help others and so he considers it a blessing to volunteer at Ronald McDonald House Charities. Well, Brian, we consider it a blessing to have you!!
